The MODALOHR, developed by Lohr Industrie, with a low floor and articulated wagon, enables the quick, safe and economical transhipment of standard semi-trailers from the road to the rail.

The main performances of the Modalohr enable:
° the observance of reference gauge GB1 used by most railway
   tracks in Europe,
° the use of standard wheels and bogies,
° the loading of standard 4-meter high trucks,
° the limitation of the loading and unloading required time down to
40 minutes for an entire train.

The Alpine Express Freight Railway Service (A.F.A.) > Has been in commercial service since November 2003 between France and Italy. The first express freight railway service has proven its efficiency today (Aiton - Orbassano - 175km). 4 trains travel daily (round trip) enabling to carry up to 500 semi-trailers per week. Today, more than 40 000 trucks have already been transported. In 2008/2009, when the works to broaden the Fréjus tunnel will have been completed, an actual shuttle service will be put into place with a departure scheduled every hour. The annual loading capacity will be in the order of 300 000 trucks.
